Mumble is mandatory for Elite stfs in the fleet. Voice chatting is not required, but being on to listen is.

This is to ensure smooth Elite STF runs. One person not being able to hear second by second instructions can make the difference between a fail and a win.

It isn't the responsibility of the Players on Mumble to type instructions in chat. It is too distracting and can also lead to a failure.

This requirement is meant to only improve the chances of successfully completing Elites, and to help with the social aspects of the fleet.

Those who feel this is an excessive request, I can only say that expecting your fleetmates to spend an hour on a ground stf only to fail it due to this issue is a much more excessive request in comparison.

If you have bandwidth issues, Mumble is advertised as low-latency, so if you can give it a try, you might have no issues.

We don't want people to feel they can only pug these missions, so please send Elite/no voice requests in MARINER10, and you may get a full team willing to take on the no voice challenge.

Darthjef,

Chief of Operations.

for elite stf's being able to listen to mission instructions is very important... I know many people dont like to speak, going on mute is acceptable... most voice channels take between 9.6 and something like 64kbps depending on the quality... if you cant run that its functionally unlikely you can run STO.

PC performance is also not normally a factor, I don't lose any FPS on using it, and the memory overhead is stupid low...

summary- if you run sto your pc and network are very likely to be of a spec to be able to run mumble as well...

How much space does Mumble take up on the hard drive? I am running STO on a Mac via Bootcamp and the Apple Store didnt follow my instructions. The amount of space on the Windows side is limited.

17.2 MB according to the installer, although after a (Windows 7) full install (with all the skins) the folder holding Mumble seems to be more like 45 MB in size.

Hearing some of the funniest dirty jokes and innuendo is worth it, period. But it is a necessity (but no guarantee - especially with me in tow) for success in elite STF.

Odd, that would be about 5 or 6 screenshots on my computer. I like pretty colors, jpgs don't do it for me. But yes, Mumble has extremely low overhead.

The following message is not meant to instigate anything regarding Mumble or the lack thereof in elite stfs.

I found having Mumble opened up a great deal about the fleet and its members to me. For that reason alone, it's worth giving it a try. As far as elite stfs go, I've done enough of them know what I'm doing. I've also never used voice chat in any real capacity, until now, and only in listen mode; so I'm quite used to typing out explicit instructions regarding running this type of operation. That being said, if anyone wants to run an elite stf, and does not have Mumble, I'll go along, provided a few parameters are met:

You need to do it in normal mode first. I need to know that you can follow directions and you need to know what you will be facing. You need to know how to achieve the optionals, and also be able to fill any role in the stf. That includes probe and kang duty in KA and Cure. Any captain can do it. You just need the proper tools; boffs, ship, and weaponry. No, I'm not going to tell you that only escorts can fulfill the role, or that one weapon type or boff ability is better than another.

And if anyone questions my ability to lead a team to victory in an elite stf without voice chat, just know that I lead Hamidon and Mothership raids in City of Heroes doing just that, as well as numerous incarnate raids, so I know how to lead. I could probably lead a good pvp team if I felt like setting up the keybinds for it, which I don't, because I like hearing Jeff's hunky voice.

Anyway, Wall of Text's Heavy Plasma torpedo crits for 114337 damage. Respawn in 15 seconds.

Bottle0rum belched in mumble. No, really, she did!

Kidding aside, ToS mumble is like Disneyland. A lot of fun, a lot of silly, and Pirates! Did I say Pirates, I ment Parrets! No, don't run, their fun pirates.

I heartily agree. With Mumble, I have taken two newbies into a Cure Elite STF, one of the harder space ones, completed the mission AND achieved the optional very smoothly. I think I was the one who blew up the most in fact.

The key isn't just what TO do, it's what NOT to do. Don't blow up nanites on KA unless you're ready to deal with a cube. Don't blow up the middle layer of probes on Cure until you have an alpha ready for the Negh'var spawn. Etc.

While leading via keyboard can be done, it's just not as efficient, and I imagine very frustrating on ground, which is far less forgiving than Space IMO.

Tbh if I was doing elite it's like doing an instance in warcraft - don't pug unless you can help it, thats an (un)written rule in MMO's and i'd like to hear.."x-ship is going for npc" sort of thing.
