Yup, I think this would be a really great idea for an EU book club, the few times I have been able to attend it was great fun.

You can record the sessions using Mumble, it has a record function... not sure what it records as, and you might want to convert it to mp3 for ease of access/size.

I'll let you know what I have at home for doing that; I haven't got it with me at the moment.

Also, I hope we dont end up in a Klingon Civil War between the Kor fans and the Kang fans!

A very delayed weekly episode blurb.... let's get to it!

Tomorrow, we revisit the Dahar Masters across the 24th century!

Forum Image

DS9: Blood Oath (Season 2, episode 19)

The three fabled Dahar Masters return! What has brought them together? and what does Dax have to do with it?

Forum Image

DS9: Sword of Kahless (Season 4, episode 9)

DS9: Once More Into the Breach (Season 7, episode 7)

Both episodes follow their further adventures!

BONUS! We will be holding a costume contest once more! Come to the book club meeting disguised as your favorite character from any show for a chance to win prizes! See you there!

Last Monday's Not-A-Book Club night included a discussion of the 2009 Star Trek reboot movie by J.J. Abrams. This week, we will discuss what director J.J. Abrams calls "one of the best 'Star Trek' movies ever made"....

Join us this coming Monday night as we talk about "Galaxy Quest"! This parody of all things Trek, from the series to the actors to the fans is a perfectly made spoof/tribute to our favorite show. Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman.

I will be there! I promise. I'm working on managing my sleeping schedule vs. my medication schedule (plus, I hope to be off the pain killers by then !)... are we doing the RP event prior to this?

btw if you do record these... when you convert them to mp3 do it as a mono file at fairly low quality and it will VASTLY lower the size of the file. if it gives you the option go to 48 or lower. fairly certain 48 is cd quality

Next week's book club gets a bit mischevous, as TOS' most beloved scoundrel and scallywag makes his presence felt!

Forum Image

TOS: "Mudd's Women" (Season 1, episode 3)

The episode more than a few trekkies love to bash. When a ship tries to evade capture, the Enterprise is forced to beam the passenger aboud! Is it truly as bad as many make it out to be? "They're not me crew, they're me cargo!" Ok, maybe it is..

TOS: "I, Mudd" (Season 2, episode 12)

TAS: "Mudd's Passion" (Season 1, episode 10)

Whenever Mudd popped up, he usually meant trouble!

See you Monday!

at some point the guy bring to the show the spirit of a few movies and tv shows of those times (1965, Boing, boing with tony curtis and jerry lewis, or.. 1966 Way... Way Out, or the tv show I Dream of Jeannie) and the funny/sexy/censored/free spirit of those times so... watched form that point of view... was a great job

edit: oh... and the amazing beautiful gorgeous bombshell cargo... hula-la ^^

PS: i believe the context inside each show/movie was deployed is very important to understand dialogs, images and ideas showed on each piece of those historical documents... and keep in mind movies/longplays of each year helps a lot.
For example... miniskirt Uhura showed actually could be a source of scandal but perfectly normal in 1966 and totally out of place at piccard's bridge, same case to a klingon alive in kirk's bridge... context is everything.

After a few weeks of hiatus (for which I apologize), I'd like to announce the return of Monday Not-A-Book-Club Night, with a bang!

TOS: the third -or "turd", as some call it- season. For many, this is when the show stopped being interesting.. but is this true for the entire season? I say thee nay! So the theme for next week is "Forgotten gems of TOS, Season 3"!!

I would normally start off with "Day of the Dove", but it's been covered before. So we'll watch two other memorable episodes:

Forum Image

TOS: "Is there in truth no beauty?" (Season 3, episode 5)

What was originally the vehicle for Gene's shilling of the IDIC pendant

Forum Image

Is actually a very cleverly-written, thought provoking episode. When a Medusan ambassador -so hideous to the naked eye that he causes whoever gazes upon him to go mad- boards the Enterprise, he is escorted by the lovely Dr. Miranda Jones, a Vulcan-trained psychologist who is fawned over by the crew. But is she truly beautiful? What secrets does she keep?

Forum Image

TOS: "Whom gods destroy" (Season 3, episode 14)

Garth of Izar. Fleet captain. Tactician. Hero. And, unfortunately, incurably insane. When the Enterprise delivers a potential cure to Elba II, Kirk and Spock learn that the inmates have taken over the asylum! How will they outwit the most brilliant tactical mind the Federation has ever known?

Join us next Monday! See you all there!

I guess it slipped Otho's mind to post :P so here is my selection for Monday's Not a Book Club night!

One of the things TOS was known for was their themed episodes, where the crew would visit planets modeled after different parts of Earth's culture (for budgetary purposes xD). This week's theme is "Mucking up the Prime Directive"

We've already seen Specter of the Gun ("the cowboy episode"), so let's watch the tree greatest remaining ones!

Forum Image
Poster credit: Rich Kelly

TOS: "A Piece of the Action" (Season 2, episode 20)

Welcome to Sigma Iotia II, home of the most dangerous mooks and bums this side of the Orion Syndicate! When investigating a culture contacted by a Starfleet vessel prior to the establishment of the Prime Directive, "Jimmy" Kirk and Spock get more than they bargained for as they discover a planet resembling Chicago in the 1920's!

Forum Image

TOS: "Bread and Circuses" (Season 2, episode 14)

When the Enterprise investigates the disappearance of the SS Beagle's crew, their search leads them to a planet whose civilization is reminiscent of the Roman Empire! What fate befell the crew of the Beagle? And are Kirk and company in danger of sharing that fate?

Forum Image

TOS: "Patterns of Force" (Season 2, episode 23)

When the Enterprise is attacked by an orbital warhead emanating from a planet that should not have access to the technology, the crew beams down to investigate.. and walk into what looks like Nazi Germany! Easily the most controversial episode in TOS (if not all of Trekdom), "Patterns" is sure to give us plenty to talk about.

See you Monday night!

Aye, I forgot to post and say how much I enjoyed last week. But I still could not remember that "great idea" I had. But I'm almost always watching an episode here or there (in season 4 of tng atm, enterprise or voyager is next) so eventually I will come across a nice connection between two ro three episodes again.

We've noticed that Book Club has been a bit TOS-centric lately.. so in the interest of being inclusive to all series (for all fleeties!) this week we'll switch gears and visit the Voyager crew!

In celebration of STO FINALLY releasing Into the Hive, let's look back at the Borg Queen, post First Contact! Teleplays (two episode stories, aired as a single episode) became a staple of Voyager, so we'll dive right into two of the most celebrated ones:

Forum Image

Voyager: "Dark Frontier" (Season 5, episodes 15 and 16)

Voyager: "Unimatrix Zero" (Season 6, episode 26 and Season 7, episode 1)

I must admit I've never seen either. So join us Monday for a trip into the great Borgy unknown!
