STO and Alt-itis: Managing Several Alts
=========================================
The What, Whys, and Wherefores of Alting
=========================================
There are several ways to play and enjoy Star Trek Online. One method (very popular among TOS veterans) is to create one or two characters and fully develop them in STO's end-game, switching ships (and BOFFs and DOFFs) as roles require. It's an efficient way to play, as all of your efforts (and resources collected) are concentrated into one or two characters and achieving milestones and gear is rather fast.
Another method, definitely NOT as fast and efficient, is the opposite route: creating a number of characters and spreading your playing time amongst them.
Neither method is "best," best being a subjective term for what matches your playstyles, proclivities, and predilections.
I happen to be a "lots of alts" player. It's how I enjoy playing RPGs. On City of Heroes, a game designed for alting, I ran over 130 active characters on Liberty server with probably 60 "retired" and "occasional" alts scattered over other servers. Here on STO, I'm running 7 level 50 characters -- 4 Feds and 3 Klingons (with 1 level 50 inactive character from Beta acting as a "banker"... More

New Years Project: Prussian Blue
I have been wanting for some time now to roll a KDF Tactical alt to complete my Klingon trifecta (I already have 1 KDF Engineering and 1 KDF Science captain). I also wanted to create it while the "Playback" event is still running so as to grab the nifty discontinued items and BOFFs before the event is over. So this holiday season I set aside time to level up a new character between Christmas and New Years. Finished this morning!

Timeline:
On Saturday night (Dec 29), I created the character, designed his costume, outfitted his first ship, and trained up his four away team/BOFFs. Sunday (Dec 30) I skipped the tutorial and started him on his way, got him to Captain and Brig. General on New Year's Eve (Monday Dec 31). Slept in/watched movies most of New Year's Day (Tuesday Jan 1) but got him to 45 (Major General) that night. Got him to level 50 this morning (Wednesday Jan 2).
