re: The tale of Ramius and Teach!

0
Marko Ramius was best known as a submarine captain for the Russian navy in the closing years of the cold war. What no one knew at the time was he was also an alien from the planet Trill. In fact he was 2 aliens. He was a joined Trill.

Trill at this time saw the rise humanity was undertaking and wanted to keep a closer eye on the progress of mankind. Marko was recruited and surgically altered to appear as a human that had died suddenly without anyone’s knowledge. Marko worked his way up through the ranks of the Soviet navy and eventually saw the balance of power shifting in their favour. At this point he defied orders and stole a new prototype nuclear submarine that could have changed the course of human history. Shortly after defecting to the United States of America he was in a horrific car crash and died.

However just before the crash happened he was beamed aboard a starship belonging to project Christopher captained by Vice Admiral Cutter. He was pulled into the future after his death had been faked and was shortly later recruited by section 31 to keep an eye on project Christopher.

By 2407 Marko had relaunched the Red Squad branch of the Academy in hopes of training the students there in advanced battle tactics to help fight against the many threats to the Federation.

In 2408 Marko needed to recruit a new first officer to replace the departing D'Vhir Noramer who had just taken his own command. Being still a part of Project Christopher Marko began searching through the past looking for a suitable candidate to fill the role.

2408

Marko sat at his desk in his ready room aboard his captured Jem'Hadar Attack Ship scouring earths history looking for someone he felt worthy of captaining one of the new Belfast class Defiant refits. This candidate would need to spend a year aboard the Red October as its first office before gaining his own command. Suddenly he found what he was looking for.

“Edward Teach. Active from 1716 through 1718. Ambushed and killed aboard The H.M.S. Jane captained by Robert Maynard. Teach was attacked by the Jane and her sister ship the H.M.S. Ranger. Teach put up a masterful naval fight and after disabling both the Jane and Ranger he came along broadside of the Jane and boarded her.

Maynard had an ambush in mind and as Teach and his crew boarded the Jane a squad of trained soldiers burst from the hold and did battle on the deck of the Jane. Teach and most of his crew was slain and Teaches head was severed and hung from the bowsprit of the Jane. Maynard later examined Teach's body, noting that it had been shot no fewer than five times and cut about twenty.

Well then this may be a man I could use don’t you think Mr. Hattenbach?”

“Yes captain. He surely sounds like the sort of man we could use. Though I worry about the use of a pirate as notorious as Blackbeard to fight the Federations enemies.”

“Looking back through his history it seems Captain Teach usually attacked his prey and won most battles through intimidation and the use of his bloodthirsty reputation. Rarely did he kill if it wasn’t needed and was often known to disembark the crew of captured vessels before scuttling them.”

“That is not the view most people would have of him Captain.”

“No it isn’t. But the gap in the truth of history and the fictions about this man are not my concern. I have found a man worthy to be one of us. Part of Red Squad until he is familiar enough with the present to captain his own ship.

Mr. Hattenbach please ready the ship for time travel. We will go to the year of 1718 and rescue this man.”

“Yes Captain!”

1718

Teach scrambled over the rail of his ship Adventure onto the deck of the Jane. A fierce battle broke out as Maynard's trap was sprung. Soldiers spilled out of the Jane's hold and began to overwhelm the pirates. Many shots were fired and for a moment Teach was lost from view in the smoke of the gunfire. At this moment he saw bright lights all around him and suddenly found himself in a world of advanced technology from the 25th century.

“Captain Teach, we seem to have a problem.”

Teach stood looking at a man he thought was an impossibility. The man before him was a Trill. The ship they both stood on appeared much more advanced than anything Teach had ever seen before. Teach had come to Earth much the same as Ramius had in the 1900's. The difference being Teach had longed for a simpler life and so took a ship to Earth in the year 1714 to begin life as a human. He had read of the life on the Spanish Main of Earth and longed for the freedom to live as a man wished on the open water.

Teach looked at the man before him trying to hide the surprise on his face and replied: “And what problem be that ye scurvy curr? I was about to take that damned ship and sink her before that scoundrel she called a captain!”

“Actually Edward you were about to be slashed across the neck with a sabre and killed. Your head was about to be cut off and hung from the bowsprit as a trophy and most of your crew slain beside you. I have come from the year 2408 to recruit a great human from Earths past and instead find a man of my own race standing before me. This is unexpected to say the least.”

“What would ye have me do then? Why have you pulled me from my fate.”

“I work for a group called the United Federation of Planets. The Starfleet branch specifically. We have taken over a star base called Mariner 10 to recruit people from the past to help fight the wars of our present. Our present being 2408.”

“2408! Ye gods man. 700 years is a long time! Trill has advanced so far? We barely had warp drive when I left to live my life among the humans. Does mankind have a place in the stars yet? Their drive to innovate has always fascinated me!.”

“The Federation is based in San Francisco in what would be the west coast of land you would have known as the colonies. About 3000 miles east of the Carolina s. Human kind has come far indeed.”

“So what is it ye want of me then? To come forward 700 years and captain a starship? To fight unknown enemies?”

“That was the idea Captain Teach. Or I could beam you back down at the same moment we beamed you up and leave you to your fate.”

“Given me choices I'm not so eager to return!”

2409

“All hands rise for the Captain!”

Teach walked aboard the U.S.S. Queen Anne's Revenge's bridge for the first time. Greeted by his new crew of Red Squad graduates on their freshly build Belfast class escort.

“Me crew. I haven’t captained a ship for some time. I've had to learn all about this world you all grew up in and be 2nd to that damned Ramius. Ill admit the dog taught me much, but being under his boot heel has grown old. Now it is time for us to take to the stars on our own and take the fight to those that threaten the worlds we love. Now is the time for Blackbeard to reign across the stars. Forget the Spanish Main and its trivialities. We have booty to be taken across the entire galaxy. The universe hasn’t seen a Privateer the likes of me in 700 years.!”

Very Nice Vex

I had forgotten that Marco Ramius was the Captain of the Red October. Nice blend of modern literary fiction (or Hollywood, take your pick ) with a hint of Pirate legends, real history, and pop culture!

Qapla'!
