I'd have posted, but I didn't think it'd make any difference to some of the morons on the STO forums anyway. It's just funny how some people jump to conclusions about something they obviously know nothing about.
Our top 5 dpsers include 2 scis. Nuff said.
Of course, If I posted that, I'd be laughed at and told that our fleet members must totally suck if 2 of our top dpsers are sci captains. And no one would believe that a sci captain can tank practically every STF ground boss solo, while outdpsing the tacs and all but a certain insane engineer as well.
So yeah, Sci captains are totally useless.

i guess... if same amount of lobi, zen, dili and fleetmarks is invested... you get better results from a tac/escort than from sci/sci.ship
sci toons dont suck, but is more expensive, harder to learn to use and difficult to fly than tac/escorts builds
you can get 5tac cons defiant from fleet base by just 5 dollars... tell me if you can do that with temporal vessel? ....plus lobi to guns and consoles
while cryptic keep that balance, sci toons will suck badly, not cus the career of course, cus the game economy cursed with those evil boxes they added
and obviously, it's just my humble opinion as tac/escort captain ....and if kumari come out into lock boxes i'l jump from that window dammit =L

bottle in a sci / sci combo regularly out damages my escorts. shes got a deadly deadly build. west does too. my eng in a cruiser pulls 9k on the fed side. more on the klink side. my tacs in cruisers are pulling 9-11k.
its not the ship or captain type. the right build can pull MASSIVE damage. yes sometimes you have to spend ALOT of ec to get there. you have to grind through the rep systems and you need to know game mechanics. but we have people of all 3 classes in our fleet pulling 9k or more dps and without doing anything extreme.

Thats the dps I wanna pull on my Eng/Cruiser and my kdf tac. Is that avg match dps or what you are dealing per ship you destroy? I keep imagining 9000 dps floaters which would be great!

9000 is overall in infected space elite. its the baseline we use to see where we are at damage wise because you basically stay in 1 long combat for the entire stf.
its literally damage / time.
my tac spikes upwards of 45000 dps but its never sustainable. this is what gets people killed in pvp. anyone can tank through 9k sustained dps with the proper buffs but its those spikes that make you go splat.
if you watch a graph of cruisers that pull 9000 its fairly even. escorts doing alpha strikes mixed in with lightly buffed attacks look more like the swiss alps on a graph.

Look at any other MMO and you'll see that each class has varying degrees of difficulty. For example, in LoTRO I play all 9 classes. Out of those classes, the Champion, Guardian and Hunter are by far the easiest classes to play. The more difficult classes are the ones you need to think more and know your class abilities more, for example: Rune Keepers, Lore-masters and Minstrels.
It's the same thing in STO. Knowing your Sci abilities and how to spec correctly to achieve maximum effectiveness is how you get a good Sci toon.
